Young & Seen

Submission Terms

These terms apply to material submitted to Young & Seen, operated by YOUNG AND SEEN (PTY) LTD.

1. Free submission

Ordinary editorial submission is free.

Young & Seen does not charge for editorial consideration and payment does not guarantee publication.

2. Editorial selection

Young & Seen may select material from:

public submissions,
invited submissions,
scouting,
photographers,
schools,
organisations,
direct editorial invitation.

The magazine cover is an editorial choice.

3. Age and guardian consent

For a young person under 18, a parent or legally competent guardian must consent before Young & Seen accepts the submission for publication consideration.

An 18-year-old may submit on their own behalf.

4. Submission categories

Kind Hearts & Community
Skills, Passions & Collections
Achievements & Big Moments

5. Truth and accuracy

The submitter confirms that information supplied is accurate to the best of their knowledge.

Achievements, awards or factual claims may be verified where Young & Seen considers it appropriate.

6. Rights to submit

The submitter confirms that:

they have the right to submit the material,
they have obtained necessary permission from a photographer or other rights holder,
material identified as the young person’s own work is genuinely their work,
publication will not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright or privacy rights.

7. Editorial licence if selected

If material is selected and the required consent is completed, the rights holder grants YOUNG AND SEEN (PTY) LTD a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:

reproduce,
crop,
resize,
format,
typeset,
display,
distribute,
archive,
publish and promote the selected material

in connection with Young & Seen, including:

physical magazine editions,
PDF editions,
EPUB editions,
the Young & Seen website,
approved social-media promotion,
reasonable promotional material for the relevant edition or feature.

8. Editing

Young & Seen may make reasonable edits for:

spelling,
punctuation,
layout,
length,
formatting,
image cropping,
colour correction,
publication quality.

Young & Seen will not materially change the meaning or voice of a young creator’s original work without permission.

9. No publication guarantee

Submitting material does not guarantee:

publication,
a particular issue,
a particular page,
a full-page feature,
a cover,
social-media publication,
a specific publication date.

10. Withdrawal before publication

A guardian or adult submitter may request withdrawal before publication.

Young & Seen will use reasonable efforts to honour the request if production has not progressed beyond the point where withdrawal is reasonably possible.

11. After publication

Young & Seen cannot guarantee recall of:

physical copies already printed or distributed,
digital editions already supplied to customers,
screenshots, shares or third-party reposts lawfully made before removal.

Reasonable future digital use may be stopped where legally required or appropriate.

12. Safety and unsuitable material

Young & Seen may reject or remove material that is exploitative, sexualised, hateful, dangerous, unlawful, misleading, abusive, privacy-invasive or inconsistent with the publication’s safeguarding standards.
