Child Safeguarding

Purpose

Young & Seen exists to celebrate young people without exploiting, sexualising, humiliating or unnecessarily exposing them.

1. Editorial standard

Young & Seen will not knowingly publish content that:

• sexualises a child,
• depicts abuse or exploitation,
• reveals dangerous private information,
• encourages harmful behaviour,
• humiliates or degrades the child,
• creates an unreasonable safety risk.

2. Images

Avoid publication of:

• home addresses,
• visible identity documents,
• precise real-time location,
• school timetable details,
• private contact information,
• other material that makes locating a minor unreasonably easy.

3. Captions and profiles

Use first/preferred name, age and province as the normal public identity format.

Avoid unnecessary surnames for minors unless there is a specific approved editorial reason.

4. Sensitive stories

Stories involving trauma, health, abuse, family conflict, criminal allegations or other sensitive matters require enhanced review and should not be published merely because a guardian consents.

The child’s dignity and foreseeable future impact must also be considered.

5. Social media

Do not encourage followers to rank children’s appearance.

Moderate sexual, abusive, exploitative or threatening comments.

Remove comments that expose private information or create safeguarding risk.

6. Paid content

Paid social or sponsored features must not override safeguarding standards.

7. Withdrawal concerns

Where a child or guardian later raises a credible safety concern, Young & Seen should review future online availability promptly even where historical print copies cannot be recalled.
