Young & Seen
Photo & Copyright Terms
1. Ownership
Young & Seen does not claim ownership of a photographer’s or creator’s copyright merely because material is submitted or published.
Copyright remains with the relevant rights holder unless assigned separately in writing.
2. Permission to submit
The person submitting a photograph must have authority to do so.
If a professional photographer owns the copyright, the parent or submitter must obtain permission allowing submission and publication by Young & Seen.
3. Publication licence
For selected material, the rights holder grants YOUNG AND SEEN (PTY) LTD a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, crop, resize, format, publish, distribute, archive and promote the work in connection with Young & Seen.
The licence covers the agreed publication channels identified in the relevant consent/release.
4. Credit
Young & Seen will make reasonable efforts to credit photographers and creators where requested and where credits are supplied accurately.
A missing or incorrect credit should be reported promptly so it can be corrected in future digital use where reasonably possible.
5. Editing
Reasonable editorial adjustments may include:
- cropping,
- resizing,
- colour and exposure correction,
- file conversion,
- layout overlays,
- typography around the image.
Young & Seen should not materially alter a person’s physical appearance in a misleading way.
6. AI-generated or heavily manipulated content
A submitter must disclose if submitted creative material is substantially generated or manipulated by artificial intelligence where that fact would affect editorial understanding of authorship.
Young & Seen may decline such material or label it appropriately.
7. Infringement
A person claiming copyright infringement may contact legal@youngandseen.co.za with:
- identification of the work,
- the allegedly infringing use,
- proof or explanation of rights ownership,
- contact details.
Young & Seen may temporarily remove material while a credible dispute is investigated.
